Wine Safaris to ‘Amore’ Abruzzo
“forte e gentile” (strong and gentle) – the greenest region in Europe
Since 1984, we have been importing wines from small, family-run vineyards in Abruzzo, Italy.
Over the years, this zeal has grown, our knowledge has multiplied and we’ve developed some lifelong friendships with some exceptional winemakers.
Such a wealth of first-hand experience, and an abiding love for the region and its wines, makes this tour truly unique.
Abruzzo has been called a paradise on earth for its stunning natural beauty. Development is forbidden in its three National Parks, so the region retains a timeless quality—and its winemakers, many of whom you’ll meet in person, preserve the traditional skills of viticulture with a proud passion which they delight in passing on to their guests.
Sunning yourself in an idyllic vineyard, sampling the fruits of their labours, so lovingly and skilfully crafted, is an unforgettable experience
Our accommodation at the beautiful La Rustica is run by Armando and his charming wife, Cristina. All the delectable food you’ll sample there is made by them on the premises, using local produce.
Day 1 – Wednesday
After your arrival in Rome you are taken for a fabulous lunch and wine tasting in the hills above Tivoli
with breath-taking views of the waterfalls and views across to Rome, at the 4*hotel, Torre St. Angelo.
Then we journey across the Apennine National Park to Abruzzo, enjoying the spectacular views of mountains, villages and valleys en route.
On arrival at our relaxing Country Retreat, we’ll be treated to a prosecco reception, by the pool.
Dinner will be hosted by one of our leading, local winemakers and vineyard owners. They will introduce their wines, pairing up with the food for each course.
Day 2 – Thursday
After breakfast we take you on a fascinating cookery course— learn how to make 5 types of fresh pasta and the sauces to accompany them.
Lunch includes a tasting of local wines presented by the winemaker. Later, a visit to an award winning winery in the nearby hills for a walk through the vineyard and a tasting of their award-winning wines and to take in the spectacular scenery.
In the evening, a trip to Bucchianico and the beautiful, ancient, olive oil mill of Francesca’s, who has twice been featured on BBC TV, followed by a short walk through the old town to the famous Restaurant Ferrara, for a Gala Dinner, made all the more delightful by the excellent hospitality of the owner, Claudio.
Day 3 – Friday
After Breakfast, it’s just a short trip to the award winning Cantina San Giacomo for a winery visit, tasting of their delicious wines and tour of the facilities followed by lunch at the highly acclaimed Osteria La Balena, on the world famous ‘Traboccho Coast’.
After an aperitif on the Trabocchi Cavaluccio, a stroll around the abbey and gardens of the XII-century
St. Giovanni in Venere. Dinner, (if you have any space left!) back at La Rustica, hosted by an award winning local winemaker.
Day 4 – Saturday
To Bosco winery, museum, tasting and then a special surprise trip ending up at Le Nostre Radici
for an 8-course, home-produced banquet and wines!
In the afternoon, shopping in Pescara, then back to La Rustica for relaxation and siesta to restore
yourself in time for the farewell gala dinner, with the excellent wines of a surprise guest, to be announced!
Day 5 – Sunday
Our last day in Abruzzo starts with an outing to the stunning hilltop village of Prezza, where the winery
is built under the village.
A delicious meal at Sulmona’s best restaurant, then walkabout with retail therapy time at the Confetti shops.
Return to Rome for your onward flight.
